What are my WHS compliance obligations?

There are a number of different areas that need to be addressed. The most obvious that you are most probably aware of is getting your fire service equipment checked and a compliance certificate issued.
Another one is to ensure your electrical safety is up to standard to ensure your staff and customers are safe at all times whilst on the premises.
This can involve some of the following:

  • Testing & tagging of your electrical appliances to comply with current Australian standards and WHS obligations
  • The installation of safety switches (RCD’S) on all power circuits which is a mandatory requirement in most states of Australia. This is not a set and forget item and they require annual testing in some places to ensure they will work when most needed.
  • Testing and replacement of Exit & Emergency lighting. This again is a requirement with strict guidelines set out in the Australian Standards and Building Code of Australia (BCA).
